Since March 2025, the soup kitchen of our Community Center project has become a lively meeting place for children and young people in the Suncity district of Rundu. Since then, around 530 young people have already been reached, receiving far more than just a warm meal.

Every weekend, the soup kitchen opens its doors on two days and offers children from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds a reliable place to come to. In addition to a nutritious meal, the space provides a safe environment for meeting others, exchanging experiences, and enjoying shared leisure activities.

After the meals, the place transforms into a vibrant social gathering spot: children play, laugh, talk to one another, and experience a sense of community. The soup kitchen is therefore much more than a place that provides food. It creates relationships, strengthens trust, and offers children and young people a safe setting where they feel seen, supported, and part of a community.

At the same time, the project also creates opportunities for adults in the local community: four people support the soup kitchen as permanent members of the local team and are now an active part of both the initiative and the community.

A key factor in the success of the project is the close cooperation with the local charity group Ithemba. They organize and lead the initiative on site, coordinate the daily operations of the soup kitchen, and regularly provide play and care activities for the children. Through their strong connection to the community, Ithemba ensures that the support is sustainable, culturally sensitive, and tailored to local needs.

Alongside the soup kitchen, the grounds of the Community Center are also continuing to develop. Together with the local community, new plants have been planted and seeds have been sown, which are now being cared for by the people on site. This not only creates new opportunities for the Center, but also provides more and more areas in which the community can take responsibility and actively shape its further development.

You can find more information about the construction and concept of the center on the project page of the Community Center.
